A Beach Lover’s Guide to Sydney’s Winter Charm
As I left for my study abroad journey in Sydney, Australia, I was beyond excited. Initially, I was apprehensive about leaving the warm, sunny days of summer in the United States to experience Australia’s winter, which runs from June to August.
However, I quickly learned that an Australian winter is not like the rest! Although Australia’s temperature drops during these months, it is extremely mild compared to most parts of the world. The sun is almost always shining, and the skies are blue!
As someone who loves being by the water, I have spent most of my weekends exploring Australia’s countless beach towns. Winter here means fewer crowds, so it’s been a luxury to, at times, have entire stretches of beaches to myself.
Sydney is such a special place because it offers the opportunities and liveliness of a bustling city, but it is just a ferry or bus ride away from some of the most tranquil and picturesque beaches in the world. With over 100 beaches in Sydney alone, there is always a new destination to explore.
Although I have many more to discover, some of my favorite beaches so far are Manly, Malabar, Coogee, Bondi, Maroubra, Bronte, Freshwater, Watsons Bay, and Jervis Bay. I cannot wait to continue uncovering more of Australia’s coastal beauty during my time abroad!
